Sand Mandalas

Mixed Media Works

Cinematic Pictograms

This is the second year that I focus my work on the state and recovery of the world's Ocean, I began a series of large scale sand mandalas to position the relevance between the ocean as the birthplace of life on earth and the spiritual legacy of a human consciousness that has sought enlightenment; to that end, I have continued with Project Maritima and with the Royal Blossom Project.  I have developed a dramatic variation on short films, which I call “Cinematic Pictograms” and created 13 examples of it so far. I also continued the series of mixed media works under the title of “Tales From The Anthropocene, featuring my avatar, Judy The Leading Light.

Reacting To Her Call

40” x 53”

       Mixed Media On Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

The first thing to do when something is going amiss is to STOP.  That very simple action is possibly the hardest thing for humanity to accomplish at the scale of global activity.  In fact, it may be the single most critical driver behind the extinction of most life on earth, including humanity.  As a species however, we are adaptable and adaptation to course corrections on our development will deliver learning to stop.

The Apotheosis of Innocence

40” x 53”

Mixed Media On Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

There is something beautiful to be seen even in the unnaturalness of the seascape resulting from the effects of human pollution.  It is a kind of horrible beauty in which cannot be sustained if our children are to inhabit the earth.

Muscle Power

60" x 80"

Mixed Media On Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

The natural archives of data are replete with examples of how the life force is integrated into a myriad of beings that use its channels to effect myriads of functions.  Functions, which are not just on, the behalf of the individual species but, extended throughout the entire web of life.  There is the lesson we have not culturally evolved to practice; this is also the clue to our future survival.

Climate Change Redemption

40" x 53"

Mixed Media On Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

Once the ocean reclaims the lowlands, redemption comes late for those affected.  The changes are occurring at the same time that civilization is ignoring their source and worst yet, denying the existence of preventative measures.  Redemption then may not be embedded in the climate change argument but, in the cultural shift towards resolution and the actions it requires.

Royal Sweep

40" x 53"

Mixed Media On Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

The movement of the ocean water is not just a clever effect of the rotation of the Earth, ocean currents, wind currents, and tectonic action.  The ocean is the circulatory system that keeps the Earth alive.  When we get that fact, it places us on the road recovery for humanity, all species on our planet, and for our beautiful planet Earth.

Continuity Spell

40" x 53"

Mixed Media On Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

Human ingenuity and its mystical counterparts will have to be at cause in the continuity of life on Earth.  The power of the changes we unleashed cannot be contained by Nature alone, as nature cannot work at the time scale in which the repairs will have to be carried out.

Blow Back Panel #2 of 3

40" x40"

Mixed Media on Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

Myth has been a constant companion to the development of the humanity and is one cultural component whose critical function may still come into play as the human project takes on the task of understanding, formulating, and reacting culturally to the challenges of what scientists are calling the Anthropocene Epoch.  Myth in its 21st century incarnations may prove to be great public communicators of the complex issue embodied in an easy to understand story with issue-characters that are a part of everyday life.

Water Is The Medium; Life is its Art #6 of 6

40" x 53"

Mixed Media On Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

There is an event occurring whereby the ocean is becoming increasingly more acidic, as a consequence, billions of creatures whose body style is made with calcium carbonate cannot adapt to the higher acidity of the water and so they are dying off.  The trouble is that their existence props up billions of other life forms that will also begin to die in their absence.  We humanity, do not even know how much of the other life forms are needed to keep life on our earth working and yet we are destroying it as fast as we can.

400 Parts Per Million

60" x 80"

Mixed Media On Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

Here is a carbon level that has not been registered for millions of years, and we accomplished that in less than 200 years.  It is carbon that will stay in the atmosphere for thousands of years.  FOLKS, this is a wake up call, this is a roll up your sleeves and get busy now call. It takes all of us transitioning to reality of this hazard, taking action and to not stop until we win.   Then we will celebrate our efforts by inviting the leaders of the world to come and see what we, a collective humanity, did while they talked about it.

Rite of Spring

108” x 192” / 9ft x 16 ft

Mixed Media On Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

This painting is my homage piece in celebration of the 100-year anniversary of Igor Stravinsky's Le Sacre do Printemps  (Rite Of Spring).  I have created a whole ballet with an Anthropocene Epoch narrative around this canvas and it may be as revolutionary as the original score by the venerated master of the 20th century music.  At the end of the narrative for my ballet:  “As dawn approaches, the wizard casts the spell, the maiden rises in the air and amidst a shower of fantastic luminosity the two disappear into the ocean waters to witness the beginning of a new age.

The Anthropocene Epoch Situation Room

40" x 53"

Mixed Media On Canvas

Project Maritima

Beth's Narrative for the Work:

The world that we managed to create in just a few hundred years is replete of miraculous interventions and ghastly terrifying ones. The effects of those that ran away from our control will be immensly difficult to restrain and bring under control. Others, which we deliberatly set lose, may take hundreds and even thousands of years to subdue thier lethal effect on life.

It is a hot valve that which we must turn to close, it is a life or death gamble that we must take.

Behind the Mask of Innocence

40" x 60"

Mixed Media On Canvas

Beth's Narrative for the work:

Behind humanity's mask of innocence stands the culprit which placed our oceans and life on the planet in great harm, behind the mask also lays the answer.  Beyond awareness, beyond silence, beyond creativity, beyond insight, and transformation is life itself; and it began in the sea.

Once we understand that we can learn from nature to see what must be done to recover the ocean and the rest of life on the planet, we can come out from behind the mask.  You are life and life should be valued, as not amount of money in this world can buy the worth of LIFE. Ong Namo
